Semiconductor, high-end technology, is very different from traditional industry, bicycle. But in this year Xuan Ming Zhi connects semiconductor with bicycle. Last year, in September, he invested Awise Fiber Technology  Co., Ltd., a manufacturer specializing carbon  fiber related products, with UMC. This project was one of two traditional industry investments. During just six month, Awise Fiber Technology has developed six patent products, a bamboo bike included.

    Even in the Taipei international computer exhibition, Mr. Xuan seldom attended but appeared in the Taipei international cycling show. Not buying a bicycle, he just was busy to promote the bamboo bike to Merida and Ideal, famous bicycle industry in Taiwan, for Awise Fiber Technology.

    Mr. Xuan  said:"  In  the  beginning, his previous colleague with Philip Chuang intended to establish a company and they forecast that carbon fiber material could replace alloy of aluminum and magnesium used in PC. He also had the same opinion and decided to invest this field." UMC Capital also involved in this investment project and Stan Hung, the CFO of UMC Group, is the president of Awise Fiber Technology Co., Ltd.

   Originally, Xuan thinks that to produce semiconductor which is required sophisticated technology is very different from to produce bicycle which is focused on R&D. In  the further realization,carbon fiber material for bicycle also belongs to high-end technology. The characteristic of bamboo, the same stiffness as carbon fiber, is used to be material of bicycle which is needed tough R&D process.

   Because Philip Chuang, general manager of Awise Fiber Technology, owns the technology in bamboo fiber, Awise begins to produce bamboo bike. Chuang said:" In the past twenty years, he was producing tennis racket and bat with carbon fiber. At the same time, he realized that people used bamboo bat to replace wooden bat which is too expensive for users. He applied bamboo to produce bike because of impressive image of bamboo advantage characteristics."

   Rigth now, Awise produces the bamboo bike which reduces fatigue and shock, much more comfortable than other material frame. By absorbing shock, yet remaining incredibly stiff, bamboo is therefore an material for bike.
